Known fact: Every MC owes their craft to the Great JAMES BROWN! But “RAP” The music of Hip Hop was introduced to the mainstream not as a solo act, but a group of MCs. THE SUGERHILL GANG put RAP on the Map but the streets knew that they were manufactured and the real talent came in the form of collectives like GRANDMASTER FLASH & THE FURIOUS 5, TREACHEROUS 3, FUNKY 4 + 1, AND THE COLD CRUSH BROTHERS who were tearing the clubs up in the 70s with their tag teaming call & response rhymes. But who do they owe their craft to? The most hidden root of  RAP came from the fields and back roads of America, GOSPEL and SPIRITUALS! Through out the 1940s & 50s an American Folk group “Rapped” the Gospel, spoke of the times and  added a little humor.  Here is THE JUBALAIRES!
