A couple of months ago in an article Kendrick Lamar did for GQ magazine he mentioned that there were four MCs he idolized growing up. These MCs had a remarkable effect on the way that he rhymes and write and performs his material. As an MC we all should have someone to look up to if not all. Mine were KRS-One, Tupac, Treach, and Nas. But we also need to keep sight of our own dreams and aspirations. To paraphrase J. Cole “We idolize up until we reach their level, then they’re competition!”
Heres the 4 MCs that made Kendrick LaMar:
Whos not a fan of Dr. Dre? This man has been holding down not only Hip Hop but California for 30 years. People talk about “ghostwriters” on “The Chronic” and “2001” but what about NWA when cube left? All Dre shit was FIRE!!!!Whether he wrote his rhymes or not his albums were hot and yes! DETOX will sell a million + Among the many MCs Dre pushed, Kendrick was one!
“With the whole ‘Control’ verse, like, I knew it would bring an element of Hip Hop that hasent been there in a while. But this aint nothing no different from what I grew up listening to from Snoop”- Kendrick LaMar
TRUE! I remember when “Snoop Doggy Dogg” (Another Dr. Dre protégé) came on the scene he was killing shit and everybody. He was different like Kendrick!
“Tupac could’ve been everything for the urban community, for the ghetto. I believe personally he was the man to do it”- Kendrick LaMar.
Tupac Shakur: “Your favorite Rapper’s ‘favorite Rapper'”
“……We started recording this mix tape, called ‘Youngest Head Nigga In Charge’ (after Prodigy’s solo debut HNIC: Head Nigga In Charge) and I was a big Prodigy fan at the time, so I was really biting his style!” Kendrick LaMar.
