5 TYPES OF TOURS YOU SHOULD DO EVERY YEAR!!

MCs in the game make most of their money on the road. The days of record sales and publishing are long gone as free digital downloads upload and the need for airplay becomes unnecessary. The need to become a “performing artist” and to perfect your live show is what will carry you to success in the music industry. Here are 5 types of tours you should do every year.

CONTACTS TOUR:
As an MC, no as a MUSICIAN! you should have a database of contacts. That database should include not only friends, family and co workers but fans, promoters, club owners, DJs and Program Directors in your city and out. Use these contacts to set up shows.

PIGGYBACK TOUR:
Use your musician friends! Open up for them on their tour. 10mins on stage every show can go along way to developing and expanding your database. Just make sure you’re able to return the favor!

FESTIVALS:
YES you can tour off of festivals. You can either use them as filler dates or base your whole tour around them. Festivals happen in every city every year, all year long. And not just city festivals. If you’re a published artist its in your best interest to perform at every festival, music conference or event you can possibly get into.

FOREIGN TOUR:
If you don’t have any get a connect over seas. Italy, Germany, Croatia, they all love American music, especially the music we do. You can literally make a living just over seas.

BOOKING AGENT:
MC Camu Tao (1977-2008) when asked about success in touring told me “Get a Booking Agent! They may not get you the best paying gigs but they WILL get you gigs” Opting to do it ourselves my team ultimately suffered from not having an agent. You need someone there to do that leg work for you while you focus on your craft. They’re like a Temp agent for musicians. Their job is just that “Get you GIGS!” and if they’re good you’ll always have a job.

Shows are a good way to connect with fans direct and not only provide them with a first hand experience of what your music is about and plus you can sell merchandise direct. The days of hoping you blow up off a video, a song on the radio is DEAD!!! GIVE IT UP AND GET YA ASS OUT ON THE ROAD!!!!!!!!!
