IS THAT A GOD ON THE MIC?

IS THAT A GOD ON THE MIC?

Kendrick Lamar, boy o boy have you started somthin! Lyrics has always been the focal point in Rap music. Whether your talking about something or talking about nothing that shit has to rhyme. The rhyme is what captures the audience. The rhyme activates memory. It builds anticipation. The rhyme stimulates the brain! And the more you rhyme the more your brain is stimulated. The more stimulation to your brain projects energy to the closest brain next to you or watching and/or listening to you!

This battle of “Psychic stimulation” became the norm for MCs vying for attention. And all the techniques came from Poetry. The complex patterns, multisyllabic rhyme and sentence structure all are used to stimulate the Pre frontal Cortex (The REAL 3rd eye, not the Pineal gland) which is important for logic, reasoning & personality and the Wernicke’s area which involves linguistic expression. The mastery of wordplay goes a long way in getting what you want and conveying a message. But in our genre of music MCs leaned more on the beats and less on the books.

With the popularity of the genre its easy to see how it can get diluted. With more emphasis on the music the lyrics didn’t matter. And why should they? Music is the rhythmic energy of the soul, But “RAP” The music spawned from the culture of Hip Hop was meant to spread a message. That’s what separated it from other genres. Not to say every MC should be conscious but to say every MC should be “Introspective” and use their words to stir the minds while the music stirs the body.

But back to Kendrick Lamar’s “Control” verse!! What he did was not uncommon. MCs do that all the time on songs and most of the times its as a featured artist! People are gonna say that he brought lyrics back but lyrics never left, people just grew biased on what “Lyricism” is. What made his verse stand out whas his attack on every new MC in the game that actually have lyrics! and that’s a good thing cause that kind of broad attack makes us step our game up!

Some are making diss tracks but they’re falling on def ears while some are just “Going In” Which is what “We’re” supposed to do. Years ago they said all we did was talk and we showed them we could write. Then they said all we do rap so we showed them we can make songs. Now our Battle rappers and Poets say we lost our skill. Lets show them we can still spit! No Kendrick Lamar is not a GOD, but he is a Messenger!</
